Is the Gap Year over? Is the USA off our itinerary? Are we travelling uninsured?
This year’s Future of Travel report explores how we are still a nation seeking to explore the world and our own back yard, however there are some interesting emerging trends, differences in age groups, and concerns about safety.
We found travel is still a priority for many Australians, but how we do it is changing
- 51% of Aussies are now less inclined to visit the USA.
- The gap year is declining in popularity for Gen Z (dropping by 22% in the past 12 months).
- While 81% of Aussies state that travel insurance is a high priority, 1 in 8 travelled overseas without insurance in 2025 (and 1 in 5 Gen Z).
How we uncovered our insights
The Future of Travel report distills the key findings from a survey conducted by InsightsHQ from 14 –27 November 2025, with a national representative sample aged 18+ of 1,008 Australians. The report covers recent travel trends, evolving destination preferences, the impact of living costs on travel, attitudes towards travel insurance, generational differences in travel behaviour, and the rise of AI adoption.
The report is essential for understanding how travel is changing, and how all kinds of industry players from insurers to travel agents and tourism entities can respond to travellers’ needs and emerging trends.
